Where Has My Baby Gone?

Well, the Summer is over, although the heat is still here.  Today has been very pleasant at 80 degrees.  Thank goodness it's overcast, because when the sun does pop out for a minute or two, it gets HOT!  But I haven't turned the a/c on all day and I have the windows open.  It smells so good in here!

Gavin started Preschool this week on 9/7/2010.  Can you believe that he's 3 years old already?  He did great, too.  He didn't cry at all when I left him.  We'd been practicing what would happen on his first day and the conversation the we keep repeating went something like this...

Mommy:  Where are you going on Tuesday?
Gavin:  I'm going to school!
Mommy:  What is Mommy going to say when we get to school?
Gavin:  "Bye bye, Gavin!  Have fun!  I'll be back soon to come get you!"
Mommy:  What are you going to do at school?
Gavin:  I'm going to play with my friends, and play with toys, and have a snack, and play outside, and my teachers will love me!
Mommy:  Yes they will!  And I'll come back to get you at lunchtime.

We repeated this a couple of times a day leading up to the beginning of school and it worked out really well.  This is what he told me while we were eating breastfast on the morning of his first day.

Gavin:  I'm going to school because I'm a big boy, like Daddy. And I have hair on my chin, like Daddy. But daddy has big hair and I have little hair. You don't have hair on your chin, Mommy, 'cause you didn't growed up yet.

How funny is this kid???

Colin weaned from nursing at about 11 1/2 months.  We finished out the 12 months with frozen bagged milk and then switched him to whole milk.  He did really great with it for a few days, but then we quickly noticed that he was developing a rash in his creases.  We kept giving him milk thinking he just needed to build up a tolerance to it.  Then he developed diarrhea and then started getting a dotted rash on his legs.  It was then that we called his pediatrician and switched him to Alimentum.  That's a hypoallergenic formula that costs $26/can and last about 4 days.  WOW!  After a few days on the formula and some hydracortisone cream, he cleared right up.  So, we've cut out all dairy.  Any time we try to reintroduce any dairy, such as milk, lactaid, macaroni & cheese, etc., his rash comes right back.  I'm hoping he'll grow out of it, but who knows how long that will take.

Colin got his first haircut on Wednesday the 8th.  His blond curls were getting way too long.  We went to Cuttin' Up - A Hair Salon for Kids, the salon my friend Courtney owns.  She gave him his very first haircut as well as a certificate and a little keepsake bag with his curls.  He looks like such a little man now. :)  He's walking all over the place now and really starting to thin out.  My baby is turning into a little boy.  While that makes me want to cry :( , it's starting to get easier to be a mom of 2.  I hope the trend stays in that direction.  They can really play together now and it's nice to not have to entertain them so much...they can entertain themselves and I just have to referee.
